myTuneSync 1.2 Released

After a very long wait, myTuneSync 1.2 is now ready for release!

Though the version number indicates a "minor" release, myTuneSync 1.2 is actually pretty substantial. The main new features are:
  • Playlist Syncing (Yay! About time! Awesome!!!) Yes, now you can sync your playlists between computers. And you can create filters (just like you can with tracks) to get only the playlists you want.
  • Additional Metadata Synchronization. 1.2 will now sync Album Rating, BPM, Comments, Disc Number, Disc Count, Equalizer, Genre, Play Count, Play Date, Rating, Skipped Count and Year.
  • Manual Sync Group Selections. When presented with a list of potentially thousands of tracks to sync, you can now right-click on a track and select/deselect all tracks: By the same Artist, of the same Album, of the same Kind or with the same Genre or Status.
  • Manual Sync Searching. You can search through that same list of thousands of tracks simply by typing in a few characters.
In addition to these new features, myTuneSync 1.2 also fixes a few problems including:
  • Allows you to sync files larger than 2GB
  • Supports a 64-bit Java environment
  • Makes sure iTunes is left running, if it was running when myTuneSync started
I am very proud of this release and I hope you like it too. So if you're already a customer, it's a free upgrade so go grab it. If you're not a customer, download the fully-functional 15-day trial and try it out.

myTuneSync 1.2 goes into beta testing

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since my last post. But I'm happy to announce that myTuneSync 1.2 has been delivered to beta testers today. This new version contains a lot of new features including:

  • Playlist syncing is now supported
  • Support for syncing additional metadata, including: Album Rating, BPM, Comments, Disc Number, Disc Count, Genre, Skip Count and Year.
  • New search functionality added to the manual sync window.
  • New selection functionality added to manual sync, including the ability to select all tracks: from this artist, from this album, of this kind, of this genre, etc.
In addition to those features myTuneSync 1.2 also contains some bug fixes and some performance enhancements.

All in all, it's a great upgrade and I'm eager to get it out to the world. So stay tuned.

myTuneSync featured in Macworld

I'm very excited to announce that we received our first piece of print editorial today. Joe Kissell wrote a piece for Macworld that featured myTuneSync. It is in the August issue and also on their website.

WTF is Metadata?!

I've been working feverishly on the new release of myTuneSync - version 1.1. The big enhancement to this version is the ability to sync metadata. Wait for it...

Right, so unless you're a techno-geek (meant as a term of endearment of course) you don't know what metadata is. In short, it is all of the stuff you add to your music in iTunes to "personalize" it. Things like equalizer settings, ratings, etc. So now, myTuneSync will keep all of that stuff in sync across all of your computers too.

Anyway, myTuneSync 1.1 is now available. So if you haven't tried it yet, download it and give it a shot. If you have already purchased it (thank you very much, BTW) get the update. I think you'll really like it.

Release the Hounds!

The initial launch of myTuneSync has been well received. But up until Friday I hadn't done much in the way of advertising. On launch day I sent an email out to my group of friends asking them to check it out. And I have to say it has been very interesting to see how the word spread in such a short time. Having friends on the list from other countries even means that I'm getting hits and downloads from Europe, Australia and Japan. (Thanks to all you guys who forwarded the email to your friends.)

So two days ago I decided to take the next step and list myTuneSync on VersionTracker. Since then I've been glued to my computer watching the response. It has been fantastic! I've had almost 200 downloads since the listing went live. And I've had a number of sales and some great email interactions with people trying out the product. I'm completely stoked!

And BTW, to anyone else out their writing software, working with VersionTracker has been great. They have a nice interface for you to upload your product and their turnaround time for posting has been great.

Meet myTuneSync

I am proud to announce the release of myTuneSync 1.0 today.

What is it? Well, if you use iTunes on multiple computers, you will wonder what you ever did without it.

In a nutshell, myTuneSync synchronizes all of your music and videos between all of your computers. So when you buy a song on your desktop PC it gets copied to your laptop. And when you import a CD on your laptop, it gets copied to your desktop. Simple, right? Exactly.

So download it, check it out and let me know why you think.

Happy Happy, Joy Joy

After months of work I am happy (thrilled in fact) to announce the official launch of SocketHead Studios, LLC. For the unindoctrinated, SocketHead Studios is a project I've been slaving over since leaving my former career in email in January of 2007.

The goal was simple. After years of building software products used by businesses, I wanted to build software to be used by individuals.

The amount of work it has taken to get to today was much greater than I originally thought. Being true to my nature (that's frugal to the point of obsession for those who don't know me) I set out to see just how good of a company I could launch by myself. Of course, no man is an island so I would like to give special thanks to Andrew, Brennan, Hemant, Eric and most of all Tricia for their help in bringing all of this together.

So wish me luck and come back often to see how things are going.
